Curiouser and Curiouser

So, I (Briana) went online to compare my last two races and looks what I found:

My clock time is exactly the same, down to the second. Um, as least I'm consistent? I find this super strange. The first is from the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in January and the second is from the Disneyland Half Marathon in September (this last Sunday).

Costumes

One of my favorite things about running a Disney race is wearing a costume. If you know me at all personally, you know that costumes are a big passion of mine. I LOVE making and wearing costumes. So, here are some pictures of the costumes we've worn so far.

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012

We ran as Wendy and Peter for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, and boy was I glad. There were about 50 million Tinker Bells. I made both of our costumes from scratch. My costume was made from left over materials from my Alice costume. Both of our costumes were made to be able to run in. So, obviously my skirt is way short and his sleeves and shirt are shorter. We got an actual leather belt for him, but decided that this faux suede would be easier to move in. It fastens in the back, but uses no buckles or loops, it's a knot that slips to tighten. I have no idea what this knot is called, but I'm pretty sure I learned how to do it when I broke one of those plastic, adjustable things on a camisole top. Anyway, threw some Under Armor compression gear on under that and we both stayed warm on that early January morning.

Disneyland Half Marathon 2012

For this race, Adam re-wore Peter with a new shirt underneath to accommodate the crazy September heat. I ran as Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl from Toy Story 2 and 3.  I hot-glued and then weaved white leather strips to and through my red visor. The yellow chest bit and brown belt were painted on with fabric paint and then the red bits and the belt buckle were drawn on with fabric markers. My shorts turned out to be cut-off jeggings after my internet order turned out to be less than actual active wear (I initially planned to wear those Under Armor shorts under them, but it was so hot and I feared digestively). I wore my compression socks under my cow socks and added some yellow arm bands in exchange for long-sleeve cuffs. I french braided my hair and wore a yellow bow in it, but you can't really tell in these pics. Anyway, my friend went as Stitch and look AWESOME, however, if you want more info about her costume, you'll have to ask her.

An Intro

We did it! We ran the Disneyland half marathon on Sunday! It's been a rough few months of training. Between my IT band acting up again and the ridiculous Southern California heat, training during the day has been dangerous! Just to get the runs in, we had to wait until nightfall to run. It's a good thing I lived in a safe part of Los Angeles.

Anyway, this blog is a place for us to post things we learn, questions we might have, or even just successes or things to inform runners.

We're still learning and growing as runners. Adam finished the half in 1:33:00 or so, and I in 2:00:00. He ran in high school, and up until a year ago, I didn't believe that I was built to run. Not even a little. Up until then, my nose would run, my knees would hurt, my asthma would act up, etc. We started with couch to 5k, and even on those 2 minute runs, I thought I was going to die. But perseverance prevailed and now I can say, a year later, I've done 3 half marathons and one 10k. What can I say, I'm a fighter?

Anyway, Adam is 29, I (My name is Briana, btw) am 26. So, welcome! Feel free to ask questions or leave comments, etc. Thanks for reading!
